Eastern Bluebird Nesting Box Program

Nesting boxes are located in Percy Warner Park and Edwin Warner Park, mostly along the regularly mowed perimeter. For the past several years, the most productive boxes have been the ones marking the yardage of the holes on the Percy Warner Golf Course and in the stable area in Percy Warner Park. Nesting results for 2002-2005 follow.

2002:  55 boxes available with 46 used at least once by Eastern Bluebird;  85 nests; 76 clutches; 328 eggs laid; 213 eggs hatched and 194 nestlings banded; 46.9%  success; 53 females captured with 22 banded and 31 recaptures.

2003:  57 boxes available with 46 used at least once by Eastern Bluebird; 5 boxes used by other species and 6 boxes not used; 77 nests; 75 clutches; 326 eggs laid; 184 eggs hatched and 181 nestlings banded; 46.9% success; 35 females captured with 19 banded and 16 recaptures.

2004:  52 boxes available with 43 used at least once by Eastern Bluebird; 8 boxes used by other species (Tufted Titmouse, Carolina Chickadee, House Sparrow) and 6 boxes not used; 68 nests; 63 clutches; 287 eggs laid; 152 eggs hatched and nestlings banded; 50.87% success; 45 females captured with 18 banded and 27 recaptures.

2005: 52 boxes available; 39 boxes used at least once by Eastern Bluebird; 6 boxes used by other species ((Tufted Titmouse, Carolina Chickadee, House Sparrow) and 14 boxes not used; 61 nests; 57 clutches; 224 eggs laid; 148 eggs hatched; 126 nestlings banded. 55.8% success rate; 17 females captured with 6 banded and 11 recaptured from previous years.
