Note: Essentially the entire Southern Blue Ridge in Tennessee has been designated an IBA. This north-south corridor provides migratory, breeding, and wintering habitat for numerous species. Its importance is documented in selected sites within this physiographic province.
Location:
Along the eastern border of Tennessee to include all public lands in
the Southern Blue Ridge in Tennessee including Cherokee National Forest, Cherokee
National Wildlife Management Area, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and Hampton
Creek Cove State Natural Area in the counties of Blount, Carter, Cocke, Greene,
Johnson, McMinn, Monroe, Polk, Sevier, Unicoi, and Washington, Tennessee
Physiographic
Province: PIF 23 (Southern Blue Ridge); BCR 28 (Appalachian Mountains)
Description: Public lands make-up essentially the entire Southern Blue Ridge in Tennessee. This physiographic province stretches the entire length of Tennessee's eastern border. There are within this area 886,474 public acres--640, 941 Cherokee National Forest, 244,840 Great Smoky Mountains National Park (Tennessee part), and 693 Hampton Creek Cove State Natural Area. The Cherokee Wildlife Management Area part of the Cherokee National Forest and is found in ten counties that border along the Tennessee-North Carolina border.
