The table and graph show the number of Sandhill Cranes within the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge, Chickamauga Wildlife Management Area, and surrounding environs, in the period 1968-2006 (graph through 2003). The crane population substantially started to increase beginning in 1994 (Ken Dubke, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, David Aborn).
