2010 Winter Meeting at Reelfoot Lake

The 2010 winter meeting of the Tennessee Ornithological Society will be held at Reelfoot Lake January 29 to 31.

The Inn will hold a small number of rooms, priced at the reduced government rate of $57.38. Each room has two queen size beds and one twin. Continental breakfast is provided. This is the peak time for eagle viewing and the lake is popular with fishermen and hunters. Area motels fill early and rooms can be difficult to find. I strongly recommend booking early. The Inn is located 2 minutes from the Reelfoor Lake State Park visitor’s center, at the south end of the lake.
The winter meeting is primarily a chance to bird and there is no business meeting or registration fee. There will be an informal social hour, with refreshments, 7 PM Friday night at the Inn.
The Saturday morning field trip will leave the Inn at 7 AM. Eagle and waterfowl numbers will be at their peak. We will also seek winter visitors, like gulls, pelicans, short-eared owls, longspurs, pipits and sparrows.
Saturday evening, Knox Martin will present a program on the raptors of Reelfoot Lake. It will be held at the state parks’ Ellington Hall. The program is free and open to the public. A good photo opportunity.
Sunday morning a field trip will depart from the Inn at 7 AM.
